The road racing season kicked off in earnest last weekend with the Hampton Court Half, Richmond Half and Valentine's 10k all taking place on Sunday morning. Well done to all who took part on some super performances, mostly as part of a training plan building up to Spring marathon season. Ravi and Ioan managed to sneak in a race the week before with a trip to Wales for a trail half, which looked frankly quite horrifying, and Owen snuck off just before that for his now seemingly annual pilgrimage to The Arc of Attrition. Funny no other club members have decided to join him on that one yet...
The races continue thick and fast over the next few weeks, starting with Wokingham half tomorrow, so best wishes to all and hope the training goes well for various 10k and half marathon events during March!
A couple of other dates for the diary to look out for. Rodney has suggested a run from London to Bushy on 5th March to recognise 75 years since SHAEF was set-up in Bushy Park. More details to follow but would be a great way to mark the anniversary and can hopefully get a good turnout. Also, the annual Not the London Marathon, a staple for marathon training and general Sunday running, will take place on 10th March. Mark it in the training plan.
Another date to remember is 31st March. This will mark the end of the first official year of SHAEF Shifters existence. Asides from being a good time to celebrate what has now become almost 50 members and continues to grow, it means current members will have to re-sign up for 2019-2020. More to come on this too and hopefully you are all 'remainers'.
There is also a contingent of members heading to Glasgow on 1st March for the European Indoor champs. Should be a great weekend and look forward to the stories. If anyone feels like they are missing out there is actually a free spot going so get in touch with Nick or Justin. Otherwise look out for them from the couch...
Personally, I am looking forward to being able to start running again, 5 weeks after my knee op. Watching everyone else training while being pretty much inactive is not good for the mind or the body but anticipating a sedate return to running at Kingston for 8 miles in a few weeks. Look forward to seeing others there for either 8 or 16 miles.
