SHAEF update - 01/10/19

Club news Oct 01, 2019

Its been a while since the last club update, and quite a few events and achievements have taken place since then.

Several of the club members have been racing. Notably we had a big turnout at the Mad Mile hosted by Epsom. This was a great event which we all enjoyed and we had Louise, Kit, Eirwin, Aaron, Ravi, Rich, Rob, Gary, Will, Dan and Jon all taking part and putting in some great performances over 4 laps of the track, plus a bonus 4x400 relay at the end! Jon even managed to be the fastest miler of the night, so special congrats to him.

There's also been several others racing other events. Jon and Eirwen took part in the New Forest Half, Rodney completed the Maidenhead Half and in the process got himself a qualifier for the New York City marathon, and last weekend Ollie smashed out a PB in the Middlesex 10k. A few others were due to take part in this event but being the softies they are the threat of a bit of rain kept them away. Arethusa miles have just finished up for the year (thanks Rodney!) and several others have been putting in some super parkrun results and PBs. Dan and Jon in particular are vying for a club record parkrun time. Apologies to the other racers I have missed!

Away from the racing, Louise and Aaron tied the knot on Friday 27th September. Those of us who were lucky enough to be part of their big day will agree it was an amazing and memorable day for a fab couple. They celebrated the following morning with 5k at Richmond Park parkrun ... an impressive level of commitment!

In the next few weeks we have the Cabbage Patch 10, on 13th October. As ever, there will be a large turnout of SHAEF vests on the start line so look forward to seeing as many as possible on the day. If anyone isn't running but in the area on the day it would be great to see some faces out on the course or a sneaky little drink afterwards! The following week there is a crew of us heading off to Bruges for the Half Marathon, and then the following Sunday Rob T is off to Dublin for the marathon. Best of luck to everyone through the month of October.

Training-wise, this Thursday is the first Thursday of the month so hopefully as many of you as possible can get down to Teddington gate at 6:50pm. Should see you there! For the November FTOTM we are planning on extending the training run with 'The Chestnut', this involves reps up and down Chestnut Avenue for your choice of 5k, 10k, half marathon, or any other distance you may want to go for. You'll find this, and more, on Strava under SHAEF events.
